Display shows E2 and unit loses programming or resets randomly

Safety first: Do not work on live electrical circuits. Unplug the unit before inspecting wiring.

Steps to check:

• 1. Check power adapter: Ensure the Whirlpool power transformer is firmly plugged into both the outlet and the softener. Replace if the cord is damaged or the plug is loose.
• 2. Use a dedicated outlet: Avoid plugging the softener into an outlet shared with large motors (well pump, fridge) that can cause voltage dips.
• 3. Reset and reprogram: Unplug for 10 minutes, then plug in and re-enter all settings. Monitor for resets over several days.
• 4. Replace control board: If E2 or random resets continue with stable power, the control board memory is likely failing and should be replaced.
