• 1. Verify programming mode: Ensure the softener is set to demand-initiated regeneration (if applicable) and not in vacation or manual-only mode.
• 2. Check hardness and capacity: Confirm hardness and resin capacity are set correctly per Whirlpool manual. Incorrect values can delay regeneration too long.
• 3. Confirm flow meter operation: Run water and verify that the display shows flow or that gallons remaining decrease. If not, troubleshoot the turbine sensor.
• 4. Reset and monitor: Perform a manual regeneration, then monitor usage and regeneration behavior over several days.

When to call a technician: If E7 persists and all settings and sensors are correct, the control board may need replacement.
