Salt Level or Sensor Input Error
Display shows ERR7 and unit displays incorrect salt level or usage

Possible Causes
Faulty salt level sensor (if equipped), Corroded sensor contacts in brine well, Damaged sensor wiring, Control board input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener and wear gloves when working inside the brine tank.
Steps to check:
- 1. Inspect salt level sensor: If your Whirlpool model has an electronic salt level sensor in the brine well, remove it and check for heavy salt crust, corrosion, or broken floats. Clean gently with warm water and a soft brush.
- 2. Check wiring: Follow the sensor cable to the control head. Inspect for cuts, pinches, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the control board.
- 3. Reset salt level: Refill the tank with the correct type of salt (Whirlpool recommends high-purity pellet salt). Use the control panel to reset or calibrate the salt level according to the manual.
- 4. Replace sensor or board: If ERR7 remains and the sensor tests bad (open/short), replace the salt level sensor. If a new sensor does not resolve the error, the control board input may be defective and require replacement.
When to call a technician: If your model uses an integrated sensor system that is difficult to access, professional service is recommended.
