Possible Causes

Salt level actually low, Salt bridging in brine tank, Faulty salt level sensor, Incorrect salt level calibration

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before reaching into the brine tank. Wear gloves to protect your hands from sharp salt crystals.

Steps to check:

  • 1. Visually inspect salt level: Open the lid and confirm salt pellets are at least halfway up the tank. If low, refill with Whirlpool-recommended pellet salt.
  • 2. Break salt bridges: Use a broom handle or plastic rod to gently push down into the salt. If you feel a hollow space under a hard crust, you have a salt bridge. Carefully break it up until salt falls to the bottom and contacts the water.
  • 3. Check for salt mushing: If the bottom of the tank is filled with fine, mushy salt, scoop out the sludge and clean the tank. Refill with fresh pellets.
  • 4. Reset or recalibrate sensor: If equipped with a salt sensor, clean it and follow the manual to reset the salt level indicator.

When to call a technician: If the Lo warning persists with a full tank and a cleaned sensor, the sensor or control board may need replacement.
