Wine cooler not cooling properly, temperature rising above setpoint, E1 displayed on control panel
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect and see if E1 clears. If it returns, continue.
- 2. Locate the cabinet sensor: On most AEG wine coolers, the cabinet NTC is clipped to the inner liner (often behind a small plastic cover on the rear or side wall inside the compartment) with two thin wires leading to the top or rear.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Remove the interior cover (usually held by small screws or clips). Check the sensor wires for cuts, pinches, or signs of moisture damage. Reseat any in-line connectors.
- 4. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the main control board (accessed from the rear or top). Use a multimeter set to resistance (kΩ). At room temperature (20–25°C), most AEG NTCs should read roughly 5–15 kΩ (consult the service sheet if available). If the reading is open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is faulty.
- 5. Replace the NTC: If defective, order an OEM AEG cabinet temperature sensor/NTC for your exact model. Clip the new sensor in the same position, route the wires along the original path, and secure with cable ties to avoid contact with moving parts or sharp edges.
- 6. Check the control board: If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, inspect the control board for burnt components or corrosion at the sensor connector. Reseat the plug. If damage is visible, the board may need replacement by a qualified technician.
When to stop: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or accessing the control board, contact an AEG-authorized service technician.
