Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Fan blade obstructed by ice or wiring, Faulty fan motor wiring harness, Defective control board fan driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the fan. Beware of sharp fins on the evaporator.

Steps:

  • 1. Listen for fan operation: With the unit powered (before unplugging), close the door and listen near the rear interior panel. If you never hear the fan, E4 is likely accurate.
  • 2. Access the fan: Remove shelves, then the rear interior panel. The fan is usually mounted above or in front of the evaporator coil.
  • 3. Check for obstructions: Look for ice build-up around the fan, loose wires, or insulation blocking the blades. Clear any obstruction and ensure the fan spins freely by hand.
  • 4. Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan connector. Measure resistance across the fan motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • 5. Supply voltage check (advanced): If the fan motor tests good, reconnect power and (using extreme caution) measure DC or AC voltage at the fan connector when the compressor is running. If no voltage is present, the control board or wiring is suspect. Only perform this if you are experienced with live testing.
  • 6. Replace fan motor: Order the correct AEG evaporator/interior fan motor assembly. Transfer the fan blade if separate, mount the new motor, and reconnect wiring. Ensure the fan is centered and not rubbing.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and confirm the fan runs and E4 clears.
