Possible Causes
Door left ajar, Misaligned door, Failed magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Broken door switch wiring, Magnet missing from door frame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Most checks can be done with power on. Unplug the unit before removing panels or handling wiring.
- Confirm door closure: Close the door firmly and check that it is flush with the cabinet. Look for items or shelves preventing full closure.
- Inspect gasket and hinges: Ensure the gasket is not warped and that hinges are tight and not sagging. Adjust hinges if the door is misaligned.
- Test door switch: Locate the door switch (mechanical plunger or magnetic reed) usually near the top or side of the opening. Press the switch manually; the interior light should turn off and the alarm should stop. If not, the switch may be faulty.
- Check magnet (for reed switch types): Verify that the small magnet embedded in the door frame is present and aligned with the reed switch. Replace or reposition if missing or loose.
- Replace door switch if defective: Unplug the unit, remove the switch from the liner, disconnect wiring, and install a new Amana-compatible door switch. Reconnect wires and snap or screw the switch back into place.
- Test operation: Restore power, close the door, and confirm that the dO code clears and the light turns off.
