Possible Causes

Failed evaporator thermistor, Thermistor dislodged from evaporator coil, Broken or shorted sensor wiring, Faulty main control PCB sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing rear or interior panels.

  • Access the evaporator area: Inside the cooler, remove shelves and the plastic evaporator cover (usually at the back interior wall, held by screws). Behind it you will see the evaporator coil and a small sensor clipped to the tubing or fins.
  • Inspect the evaporator sensor: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose. Look for cracked insulation, corrosion, or ice buildup around the sensor.
  • Defrost if iced over: If the evaporator is heavily iced, allow the unit to defrost fully (door open, towels in place) for several hours. After defrosting, reconnect power and check if E2 clears. Persistent E2 indicates a sensor or board issue.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the evaporator thermistor from its connector and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the cabinet thermistor reading at similar temperature; they should be in a similar range. Open or short readings indicate failure.
  • Check wiring to PCB: At the rear of the unit, remove the metal cover to access the main control PCB. Verify the evaporator sensor connector is fully seated and wires are not damaged or pinched.
  • Replace the evaporator thermistor: If defective, install a new evaporator temperature sensor / thermistor compatible with your Antarctic Star model. Clip it securely to the evaporator tubing in the same location as the original.
  • Replace control board if needed: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control PCB may be faulty and should be replaced.
