Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, Extended defrost due to heavy frost, Faulty defrost sensor causing prolonged defrost

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: On many Arctic King wine coolers, dF simply indicates that the unit is in a scheduled defrost cycle and is not an error.

What to do:

  • Observe duration: A normal defrost cycle may last 15–30 minutes. During this time, the compressor is off and the evaporator fan may stop.
  • Check for heavy frost: If dF remains for more than an hour and you notice heavy ice buildup on the interior rear wall, unplug the unit and inspect the evaporator for excessive frost.
  • Manual defrost: If there is heavy ice, perform a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and allowing all ice to melt. Protect the floor from water.
  • Inspect defrost sensor: If dF persists abnormally or recurs frequently with heavy frost, test and replace the defrost/evaporator sensor as needed.

Safety: Do not use sharp tools to remove ice; this can puncture refrigerant lines and permanently damage the cooler.
