Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the cooler before touching the compressor, fan, or any wiring. The compressor and condenser components can be very hot.
How to respond to E5:
- Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the sides, back, and top of the wine cooler as specified in the Arctic King manual. Remove any objects blocking the rear or sides.
- Clean condenser coils: Pull the unit away from the wall. Remove the rear lower access panel. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust from the condenser coils and around the compressor.
- Inspect condenser fan: Confirm the condenser fan spins freely by hand and runs when the unit is powered (observe briefly with power on, then unplug again). Replace the Arctic King condenser fan motor if it does not run or is noisy/binding.
- Check start relay and overload: With power disconnected, remove the plastic cover on the side of the compressor. Inspect the start relay and overload protector for signs of burning or cracking. Test continuity according to the part's specifications. Replace the compressor start relay and overload assembly if defective.
- Allow cooling: If the compressor was overheated, let it cool for 30–60 minutes before restarting.
- Restore power and monitor: Plug the unit back in and listen for the compressor to start smoothly. If E5 returns quickly, further diagnosis of the sealed system or control board is needed.
Warning: Sealed system repairs (refrigerant, compressor replacement) must be performed by an EPA-certified refrigeration technician.
