Possible Causes
Defective cabinet NTC sensor, Broken or loose NTC wiring harness, Corroded NTC connector on main control board, Failed main control board temperature input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Balay wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 clears temporarily but returns, continue with checks.
- Access the cabinet sensor: The cabinet NTC is usually clipped to the rear wall or side wall behind an interior cover. Remove shelves and the plastic cover (typically held by clips or small screws).
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for cut, pinched, or chewed wires, loose connectors, or signs of moisture ingress. Reseat the connector at the sensor and at the main control board (usually located at the rear, behind the lower service panel).
- Measure sensor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the NTC from the board and measure its resistance with a multimeter. At about 20°C, most Balay NTCs read roughly 5–10 kΩ (exact value varies by model). If the reading is open (∞) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
- Replace the NTC sensor: If readings are out of range, replace the cabinet temperature sensor with a Balay-compatible NTC probe. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from moving parts and sharp edges.
- Check the control board: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the main control board (PCB) temperature input may be faulty. Inspect for burnt components or corrosion. Replacement of the PCB is recommended to be done by a qualified technician.
