Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Open thermal overload protector, Locked or seized compressor, Faulty main control board compressor drive relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance. Work only on the electrical start components; do not open the sealed refrigeration system. If you are not comfortable with mains voltage, contact a technician.
- Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, start device, and main control board.
- Inspect start device: The PTC relay/overload assembly is mounted on the compressor terminals. Check for burn marks, melted plastic, or a burnt smell. Replace if damaged.
- Test continuity: With the unit unplugged, remove the start device and test the overload protector for continuity. If open when cool, replace the start device assembly.
- Check compressor windings: Measure resistance between the three compressor pins. All readings should be finite and not shorted to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective and requires professional replacement.
- Control board relay: If the compressor and start device test good, inspect the main PCB for a stuck or burnt compressor relay. Replacement of the PCB should be done by a qualified technician.
