Possible Causes

Failed DC fan motor, Obstructed fan blades by ice or debris, Loose or damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working near the fan or evaporator. Fan blades can be sharp.

  • Access the fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Check for obstructions: Look for ice buildup, packaging material, or wires touching the fan blades. Clear any obstruction and ensure the fan spins freely by hand.
  • Inspect wiring: Verify that the fan connector is fully seated and that wires are not cut or pinched.
  • Test the fan motor: With the fan disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. For DC fans, you can also briefly power with a suitable low-voltage DC supply if you are experienced.
  • Replace the fan: If defective, remove mounting screws, swap in a Balay-compatible evaporator fan motor, and reconnect wiring.
  • Control board check: If the fan is good but never receives voltage when the compressor is running, the main PCB fan driver may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
