Possible Causes
Failed defrost heater, Defective defrost NTC sensor, Faulty defrost control on main PCB, Door gasket leak allowing moist air in
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and protect the floor from water. Do not use sharp tools to remove ice.
- Manual defrost: Open the door and allow all ice to melt completely (this may take several hours). Use towels to absorb water.
- Inspect gasket: Check the door gasket for tears or gaps. Replace if damaged to prevent excess moisture ingress.
- Access defrost components: Remove the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator, heater, and defrost sensor.
- Test heater and sensor: With the unit unplugged, measure resistance of the heater and defrost NTC. Replace any open or shorted components with Balay-compatible parts.
- Control board: If heater and sensor are good but frost returns quickly, the defrost control on the PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
