Display shows E2 and the evaporator coil ices up excessively or the unit short-cycles.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Always disconnect the Blastcool wine cooler from mains power before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges and ice can cause injury.
- Defrost the unit: Turn the cooler off and leave the door slightly open for several hours to melt any heavy ice on the evaporator. Place towels to catch water.
- Access the evaporator: Remove the interior rear panel inside the cooled compartment (usually held by screws). Behind it you will see the evaporator coil and the attached sensor.
- Inspect sensor placement: The evaporator NTC is typically clipped or strapped to the evaporator tubing. Ensure it is firmly attached and not hanging loose or buried deep in ice.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to where they exit the compartment and down to the main PCB. Look for cuts, crushed insulation, or signs of moisture ingress at connectors.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the evaporator sensor from the PCB and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the expected NTC values. An open circuit or near-zero resistance indicates failure.
- Replace if faulty: Install a new Blastcool evaporator NTC temperature sensor. Clip it securely to the same location on the evaporator coil to ensure accurate defrost control.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the interior panel, restore power, and monitor for reoccurrence of E2 and for normal frost pattern (light, even frost that periodically melts).
If E2 returns immediately with a known-good sensor, the main control PCB or its sensor input circuit may be defective and require professional service.
