Display shows E5 and the compressor does not start or stops shortly after starting.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Work on the compressor electrical terminals only with the unit unplugged. Capacitors can hold charge; discharge safely if present.
- Check ventilation and ambient conditions: Ensure the Blastcool wine cooler has proper clearance around the condenser and is not installed in an excessively hot enclosure. Overheating can trigger overloads.
- Inspect power supply: Verify the outlet voltage with a multimeter (typically 220–240 V or 110–120 V depending on region). Loose or undersized extension cords can cause low voltage and E5 errors.
- Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, start device (relay/PTC), and overload protector.
- Check start relay/PTC: Remove the start device from the compressor terminals. Shake it gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, it is likely faulty. Test continuity according to the part specification.
- Inspect overload protector: Check for discoloration or a burnt smell. Test continuity when the compressor is cool; an open protector indicates failure.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new Blastcool compressor start relay/PTC and/or compressor overload protector if defective. Ensure correct orientation on the compressor terminals.
- Re-test: Reassemble the rear panel, restore power, and listen for the compressor to start and run smoothly without tripping.
If E5 remains and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor itself may be mechanically locked or the main control PCB may not be providing stable power. Professional diagnosis with refrigeration gauges and electrical testing is recommended.
