Possible Causes

Overheated compressor, Faulty PTC start relay, Defective overload protector, High head pressure due to blocked condenser

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the rear compressor compartment. The compressor and condenser can be hot.

Immediate checks:

  • Ventilation: Ensure the BODEGA43 unit has proper clearance around the sides and rear as specified in the manual. Remove any obstructions blocking the rear grille.
  • Clean condenser: Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust from the condenser coil behind the rear panel or at the bottom front (depending on model). Improved airflow can reduce compressor overload.
  • Inspect start components: Remove the rear metal cover to access the compressor. The PTC start relay and overload protector are attached to the compressor terminals under a plastic cover. Check for burn marks, melted plastic, or loose connections.
  • Test PTC relay: With the unit unplugged, remove the PTC relay and shake it gently; if it rattles excessively or smells burnt, replace it. Measure resistance between its terminals; an open circuit often indicates failure.
  • Check overload protector: Test continuity across the overload device. An open reading when the compressor is cool suggests a failed protector.
  • Replace faulty parts: Install a new compressor start relay (PTC) and/or overload protector compatible with the BODEGA43 compressor model.

Important: If E5 persists after replacing start components and ensuring good ventilation, the compressor itself may be failing or there may be a sealed system issue. This requires a licensed refrigeration technician.
