Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness from ice buildup, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect the appliance from power before removing interior panels. Sharp metal edges and ice can cause injury.
Steps to address E1:
- Defrost first: If there is heavy frost on the back wall, unplug the cooler and leave the door open for several hours to fully defrost. Place towels to catch water.
- Access the evaporator: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- Inspect the sensor: The evaporator NTC sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small well. Ensure it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
- Check wiring: Look for broken insulation, corroded connectors, or wires damaged by ice expansion. Reseat the connector at the control board.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Bosch specifications (typically in the 5–15 kΩ range). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Replace the sensor: Install a new evaporator NTC sensor, clip it securely to the coil, and route the harness away from the fan blades and sharp fins.
- Evaluate the control board: If a new sensor does not clear E1, the main control module may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
