Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor shorted by moisture or ice, Damaged sensor wiring, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from power before accessing internal components. Beware of sharp metal edges around the evaporator area.
Steps to diagnose and replace the evaporator sensor:
- 1. Defrost the unit: If there is heavy ice buildup, switch off and leave the door open for several hours or use towels to catch melt water. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
- 2. Access the evaporator: Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic cover inside the cabinet. The evaporator coil and its NTC sensor will be visible, usually clipped to the coil or embedded in a small metal sleeve.
- 3. Inspect the sensor: Look for broken insulation, corrosion, or a sensor that has come loose from the coil. Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface.
- 4. Electrical test: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare with Brandt specifications (commonly 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). Infinite or near-zero resistance indicates failure.
- 5. Replace if faulty: Install a new Brandt-compatible evaporator NTC sensor. Route the cable away from sharp fins and secure it with cable ties or clips. Reconnect to the main PCB harness.
- 6. Reassemble: Refit the evaporator cover and shelves, then restore power. Allow the unit to run for 15–30 minutes and check if the E2 code clears.
- 7. If E2 remains: Verify continuity from the sensor connector to the PCB. If wiring is good and the sensor is new, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
