Possible Causes
Open or shorted ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from mounting point, Damaged harness to control board, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any external panels. Do not operate with covers removed.
Steps to address ambient sensor issues:
- 1. Locate the ambient sensor: On many Brandt wine coolers, the ambient NTC is located near the front grille, behind the kick plate, or on the rear of the cabinet near the condenser area.
- 2. Remove access panel: Take off the lower front grille or rear service panel using a screwdriver. Identify the small sensor probe connected by two thin wires to the main PCB.
- 3. Visual inspection: Check for crushed wires, rodent damage, or a sensor hanging loose from its clip. Ensure the sensor is not touching hot components like the compressor or condenser.
- 4. Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Brandt's NTC chart. If the reading is far outside expected range, the sensor is faulty.
- 5. Replace the sensor: Install a new Brandt ambient NTC sensor, routing the cable away from moving parts and hot surfaces. Secure it in its original location so it measures room air accurately.
- 6. Check wiring to PCB: If the sensor tests good, verify continuity from the sensor connector to the main control board. Repair or replace any damaged harness sections.
- 7. Restore power and test: Reassemble panels, plug in the unit, and monitor for 20–30 minutes. The E3 code should clear if the fault is resolved. Persistent E3 with a good sensor and wiring points to a defective control board.
