Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain tube, drain pan misaligned, excessive door openings causing condensation, cracked drain tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before working inside or behind it. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Step 1 – Locate water source: Check inside the cabinet for water under the bottom shelf or along the back wall. Also inspect under the unit for an overflowing drain pan.
- Step 2 – Clear interior drain: Remove the bottom shelf and look for a small drain hole at the rear. Use a soft pipe cleaner or flexible brush to clear debris. Flush with a small amount of warm water using a turkey baster.
- Step 3 – Inspect rear drain tube: From the back, locate the drain tube leading to the drain pan. Ensure it is not kinked, disconnected, or blocked. Clean as needed.
- Step 4 – Check drain pan: Verify the drain pan is properly seated on the compressor area and not cracked. Replace if damaged.
- Step 5 – Reduce condensation: Minimize door openings and ensure the door gasket seals well to reduce moisture entering the cabinet.
After clearing the drain, monitor for new water accumulation over several days.
