Wine cooler beeps and displays E1, interior temperature not regulating correctly
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Caple wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
Steps to check and address E1:
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 clears temporarily and returns, the sensor circuit is likely faulty.
- Locate the cabinet sensor: Inside the wine cooler, look for a small plastic probe or a sensor behind a vented cover on the rear or side wall. On many Caple models, the cabinet NTC is clipped into the liner with a small plastic cover.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the interior cover (usually a few Phillips screws). Check the sensor wires for cuts, pinches, or signs of moisture damage. Ensure the plug is firmly seated in the connector leading to the control PCB (often at the top or rear of the cabinet).
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical NTC will read between 5–50 kΩ depending on temperature. An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace if faulty: If readings are out of range or intermittent when you gently flex the wire, replace the cabinet NTC temperature sensor. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from sharp metal edges.
- Check the control PCB: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, inspect the main control PCB for burnt components or corroded connectors. Reseat all plugs. If damage is visible or E1 persists, the PCB may need replacement.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or accessing the control PCB, or if the cooler is built-in and difficult to remove, contact a qualified Caple service technician.
