Wine cooler displays E2 and may run continuously or not cool properly
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing rear or internal panels. Sharp metal edges and ice can cause injury.
Steps to address E2:
- Defrost first: If there is heavy ice on the back wall inside, leave the door open and unplug the unit for several hours to fully defrost. Place towels to catch melt water. After defrosting, reconnect power and check if E2 returns.
- Access the evaporator area: Remove the internal rear panel (inside the cabinet) to expose the evaporator coil. On many Caple models, this panel is held by several screws and may have a fan attached.
- Locate the evaporator sensor: Look for a small probe clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing, usually wrapped in foil or insulation. Ensure it is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose.
- Inspect wiring: Check for brittle, cracked, or cut insulation, especially where the wire passes through foam or near ice. Ensure the connector to the control PCB is tight and corrosion-free.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the cabinet sensor if they are the same type. An open or shorted reading indicates failure.
- Replace if needed: Install a new evaporator NTC temperature sensor, securing it firmly to the evaporator coil in the same position as the original. Refit insulation and the rear panel.
- Control PCB check: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly and may require replacement.
Note: Persistent E2 after sensor replacement usually indicates a control board fault; professional diagnosis is recommended.
