Wine cooler displays H1 and interior temperature is very high
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the rear. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system yourself.
Steps to address H1:
- Confirm ambient conditions: Ensure the wine cooler is not installed in a location exceeding Caple's specified ambient temperature (typically 10–38°C).
- Check door seal: Verify the door is closing fully and the gasket is intact. A leaking door can cause high internal temperatures.
- Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel and clean the condenser coil thoroughly with a brush and vacuum.
- Check condenser fan: Confirm the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on. If not, test and replace the condenser fan motor if faulty.
- Observe compressor: With power restored, feel the compressor after 10–15 minutes. It should be warm and vibrating slightly. If it is cold and silent, it may not be receiving power or may be failed.
- Look for frost pattern: If accessible, inspect the evaporator coil. A very small frost patch or no frost at all can indicate a refrigerant issue.
Important: Suspected refrigerant leaks, blocked capillary tubes, or compressor failures require a qualified refrigeration engineer with F-gas certification. Do not attempt sealed system repairs yourself.
