Possible Causes
Faulty compressor start relay, Open compressor overload protector, Failed compressor winding, Faulty compressor relay on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the cooler before accessing the compressor or control board.
Diagnostic steps:
- Listen for relay click: When the unit calls for cooling, you should hear a click from the control PCB and then the compressor starting. No click may indicate a PCB issue.
- Inspect start components: Remove the compressor terminal cover and check the start relay and overload for damage. Replace the compressor start relay/overload if suspect.
- Measure compressor windings (advanced): With components removed and power off, measure resistance between compressor terminals. Open windings indicate a failed compressor.
- Control PCB: If the compressor and start components test good but never receive power, the compressor relay on the main control PCB may be faulty and the board should be replaced.
Note: Compressor electrical testing should only be done by those familiar with safe multimeter use.
