Caple Door Switch or Control Logic Fault

Wine cooler interior light stays on constantly, even with door closed

Possible Causes

Stuck or misaligned door switch, Faulty magnetic reed switch, Door not closing fully due to misalignment, Control PCB not recognizing door closed signal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before adjusting door hardware or accessing the switch.

Steps to fix always-on light:

  • Check door closure: Ensure the door closes flush with the cabinet and that shelves or bottles are not preventing full closure.
  • Inspect gasket: Look for twisted or damaged door seals that prevent the magnet from aligning with the reed switch.
  • Locate door switch: On many Caple models, a magnetic reed switch is hidden in the cabinet frame, triggered by a magnet in the door. Others use a mechanical plunger switch.
  • Test switch: If mechanical, press the switch by hand and see if the light goes off. If not, the switch may be faulty. For magnetic types, move a small magnet near the switch location and observe the light.
  • Replace switch: If the switch does not change state, replace the door switch / reed switch assembly.
  • Control PCB: If the switch tests good but the light remains on, the main control PCB may not be reading the signal correctly and may need replacement.

Tip: A light that stays on will overheat the cabinet and affect wine storage; address this promptly.
