Wine cooler not cooling at all, display is on but interior remains at room temperature
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing the rear cover or touching any electrical parts.
Diagnostic steps:
- Listen for compressor: With the unit plugged in and calling for cooling, listen at the back. A healthy compressor will hum quietly. Clicking every few minutes without sustained running suggests a start issue.
- Check condenser fan: If the condenser fan is not running, the compressor may also not be powered. This can indicate a control PCB fault.
- Inspect start relay: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the PTC relay and overload protector for burn marks or cracks. Replace the compressor start relay/overload if damaged.
- Measure voltage (advanced): With extreme caution and only if competent, measure mains voltage at the compressor input when it should be running. No voltage indicates a control or wiring fault.
- Control PCB: If the compressor never receives power but the display works, the main control PCB relay may have failed and require replacement.
Important: If the compressor is receiving power but does not start or runs very hot without cooling, it is likely failed internally. Compressor replacement must be done by a qualified refrigeration engineer.
