Possible Causes

Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor wire shorted against metal chassis, Oxidized or loose sensor connector at control board, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect power before removing any panels. Sharp metal edges are present; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps to diagnose and fix:

  • Reset the unit: Unplug for 5–10 minutes and plug back in. If E2 reappears quickly, proceed with sensor checks.
  • Access the evaporator area: Remove the rear service panel. On many Costway wine coolers, the evaporator is behind an internal rear panel; the sensor is clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted nearby.
  • Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, crushed insulation, or wires rubbing on sharp metal. Correct any pinched or chafed wiring and secure with zip ties.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the evaporator sensor from the control board. Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to the cabinet sensor (they are often similar NTC types). A reading of OL or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
  • Replace the evaporator sensor: If defective, install a new evaporator NTC temperature sensor. Clip it firmly back onto the evaporator coil in the same position to ensure accurate readings.
  • Check the control board: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control board may be faulty and should be replaced as an assembly.

Note: Avoid bending or puncturing refrigerant tubing while working near the evaporator.
