Possible Causes

Door not fully closed, Misaligned door or hinges, Failed magnetic door switch or reed switch, Weak or damaged door gasket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Most checks can be done with power on, but unplug before removing any panels.

  • Check door closure: Ensure shelves or bottles are not preventing the door from closing fully. Adjust shelf positions if needed.
  • Inspect gasket: Look for gaps, tears, or warped sections of the door gasket. Close a sheet of paper in the door at several points; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak.
  • Check door alignment: Verify the door is level and square with the cabinet. Tighten hinge screws and adjust as needed.
  • Test door switch: Many Danby wine coolers use a magnetic reed switch hidden in the cabinet frame and a magnet in the door. Slowly move a magnet along the frame near the top/side and see if the door alarm clears. If it does, the internal switch may be misaligned or faulty.
  • Replace switch or gasket: If the switch fails to signal door closure, replace the door switch assembly. If the gasket is damaged, replace the door gasket with a Danby-specific part.
