Possible Causes
Failed evaporator thermistor, Thermistor dislodged from evaporator coil, Broken or shorted sensor wiring, Faulty main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges are present around the evaporator compartment.
- Access the evaporator area: Remove interior shelves and the rear interior panel inside the cabinet to expose the evaporator coil on Danby wine coolers.
- Locate the evaporator sensor: It is usually clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing or mounted in a small plastic holder near the coil.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose. Re-secure with aluminum tape or the original clip if it has come off.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back toward the control board. Look for chafing, cuts, or signs of moisture damage at connectors.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Danby’s temperature/resistance chart. Replace the sensor if it reads open, shorted, or far out of spec.
- Reconnect and test: After replacing or reseating the sensor, restore power and monitor if the E2 code clears and the unit cycles normally.
- If E2 persists with a good sensor: The main control PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly. Replace the control board as a last step.
