Possible Causes

Defective ambient thermistor, Sensor knocked loose from mounting location, Damaged harness between sensor and control board, Failed control PCB input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any exterior panels.

  • Identify ambient sensor location: On many Danby wine coolers, the ambient sensor is located near the front grille, side wall, or behind the control panel to sense room temperature.
  • Inspect sensor and mount: Check that the sensor is not dangling or pressed directly against hot components. Reposition it so it measures room air, not coil or compressor heat.
  • Check wiring and connectors: Look for loose plugs, corrosion, or pinched wires where the harness passes through the cabinet or into the control housing.
  • Test resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to Danby’s spec. Replace if open, shorted, or significantly off.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a Danby-compatible ambient thermistor, routing the wire along the original path and securing it away from moving or hot parts.
  • Control board check: If a known-good sensor still triggers E3, inspect and replace the main control PCB.
