Digital display shows E1 and cabinet is not cooling properly or temperature is unstable.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
This code usually indicates a fault with the cabinet temperature probe (NTC) used by De Dietrich wine coolers to regulate temperature.
- Access the sensor: Open the cabinet and locate the temperature sensor usually clipped to the rear liner or side wall behind a small plastic cover or routed through the rear panel.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor lead for cuts, pinches, or signs of moisture ingress. Ensure the plug at the sensor and at the main control board is fully seated and not corroded.
- Test the sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure the NTC at room temperature. Typical NTCs read between 5–20 kΩ at ~25°C. If it reads open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
- Check the connector on the PCB: Remove the top or rear service panel to access the main control board. Verify the sensor connector is clean and firmly attached.
- Replace if faulty: If readings are out of spec or intermittent when you gently flex the cable, replace the cabinet NTC sensor with a compatible De Dietrich part. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from evaporator fins.
- Power up and test: Reassemble panels, plug the unit back in, clear the error by powering off/on, and monitor temperature stability for several hours.
