Display shows E2 and the unit may overcool or not cool at all; compressor cycling is irregular.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Edges of metal panels and evaporator fins can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.
E2 on De Dietrich wine coolers typically points to the evaporator temperature probe used for defrost and compressor control.
- Locate the evaporator: Remove the internal rear liner panel inside the cabinet (usually held by screws) to expose the evaporator coil.
- Find the sensor: The evaporator NTC is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small well on the coil, with wires leading to the cabinet wall.
- Check for ice buildup: If the coil is heavily iced, carefully defrost with the unit unplugged. Do not use sharp tools; use warm air or allow time to melt.
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for cracked insulation, corrosion at the clip, or broken wires where they pass through the foam.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to cabinet NTC values; if open or shorted, it must be replaced.
- Replace sensor: Install a new De Dietrich-compatible evaporator NTC, clip it firmly to the same tube location, and ensure good thermal contact.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the rear liner, restore power, clear the error by cycling power, and verify that the unit cools and defrosts normally over 24 hours.
