Display shows E6 and the internal fan does not run or runs erratically; temperature is uneven inside the cabinet.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Disconnect the appliance from mains before working near the fan or evaporator. Fan blades can be sharp.
E6 typically indicates a problem with the internal circulation fan used in De Dietrich wine coolers to distribute cold air evenly.
- Access the fan: Remove the internal rear panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Check for obstructions: Look for bottles, shelves, wiring, or ice interfering with the fan blades. Clear any obstruction and ensure the fan spins freely by hand.
- Inspect wiring: Verify that the fan connector is firmly plugged into the harness and that wires are not pinched or cut.
- Test the fan motor: With the fan unplugged, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, you can also briefly power with a suitable low-voltage DC supply to confirm operation (only if you are qualified).
- Check board output: If the fan tests good, the control board may not be supplying power. With the unit powered and calling for cooling (only for trained persons), measure voltage at the fan connector. No voltage suggests a board fault.
- Replace faulty part: Replace the fan motor if defective, or the main control board if it is not driving a known-good fan.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and verify that the fan runs whenever the compressor is on and that the E6 code clears.
