Possible Causes

Defrost sensor NTC open/short, Overheat sensor on compressor or heat sink tripped, Sensor wiring harness damage, Main control PCB misreading sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and allow any ice buildup to melt before working near the evaporator.

  • Defrost sensor check: Access the evaporator area by removing the interior rear panel. Locate the defrost sensor clipped to the evaporator or defrost heater. Ensure it is firmly attached and not encased in heavy ice.
  • Thaw ice: If the evaporator is heavily iced, leave the door open and unit unplugged for several hours or use a hair dryer on low, keeping it away from plastic parts and wiring.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the defrost/overheat sensor wires to the control board. Repair any damaged insulation and reseat connectors.
  • Sensor replacement: If the sensor appears swollen, cracked, or tests open/short, replace it with the correct Della Marta defrost/overheat NTC sensor.
