Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, user misinterpreting status code, control board stuck in defrost due to sensor issue

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: No immediate safety risk; this is usually informational.

Steps:

  • Wait cycle out: Allow 20–40 minutes for the defrost cycle to complete. The code should clear automatically and cooling should resume.
  • Check for ice buildup: If the code remains for hours and cooling does not resume, unplug the unit and inspect the evaporator for heavy ice. Defrost manually if needed.
  • Sensor check: Test the defrost/evaporator sensor. A faulty sensor can cause the board to remain in defrost.
  • Control board: If the sensor is good but the unit remains stuck in defrost, replace the main control PCB.
