Possible Causes

Open or shorted cabinet NTC sensor, damaged sensor wiring harness, corroded connector at control board, failed main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

Steps to check and correct:

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in to see if E1 clears. If it returns, continue.
  • Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Dometic wine coolers, the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC) is clipped to the evaporator or mounted behind the inner liner, usually near the top or rear wall. Access is typically from inside the cabinet by removing the interior panel or from the rear service panel.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the thin sensor wires from the sensor to the main control PCB for cuts, pinches, or rodent damage. Ensure the plug is fully seated on the control board and not corroded.
  • Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the board and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (around 25°C / 77°F), most Dometic NTC sensors read roughly 5–10 kΩ (check service data if available). If the reading is open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
  • Replace if faulty: If resistance is out of range or the insulation is damaged, replace the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC probe). Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from sharp metal edges.
  • Check control board: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, the sensor input circuit on the main control PCB may be defective and the board will need replacement.
