Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay or PTC, open Peltier (thermoelectric) module on absorption/thermoelectric models, defective main control PCB power output, wiring harness damage to compressor or module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before removing the rear cover. For compressor models, avoid disturbing sealed refrigerant lines.

Procedure:

  • Identify cooling system type: Dometic wine coolers may use a compressor, absorption system, or thermoelectric (Peltier) module. Check the rear of the unit: a compressor is a black metal can; a Peltier module is a small square device sandwiched between heat sinks.
  • Check for operation: After plugging in (for testing only), listen for compressor hum or feel for vibration. For Peltier units, feel if the heat sink begins to warm. Then unplug again before further work.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for burnt connectors at the compressor start device or Peltier module. Repair or replace any overheated terminals.
  • Test components: For compressor models, test the compressor start relay/PTC for continuity and signs of burning. For Peltier models, measure resistance across the module; an open circuit indicates a failed module.
  • Replace faulty parts: Replace a defective compressor start device or Peltier cooling module as appropriate. Ensure good thermal contact and use new thermal compound on Peltier modules.
  • Control board: If the compressor/module and wiring are good but no voltage is supplied from the main control PCB, the board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
