Possible Causes
Defrost sensor open or shorted, sensor not properly attached to evaporator, wiring harness corrosion, control board misreading sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and allow any ice to melt before working near the evaporator.
Steps:
- Access evaporator: Remove the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator and defrost sensor.
- Check sensor mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the evaporator tubing and not hanging loose.
- Test sensor: Disconnect and measure resistance. Replace the defrost/evaporator sensor if readings are abnormal.
- Inspect harness: Repair any corroded or broken wires between the sensor and control board.
- Replace control board: If a new sensor does not resolve F3, the defrost sensor input on the main control PCB may be defective.
