Possible Causes

Defective cabinet temperature sensor (NTC probe), Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector on main control board, Failed main control board temperature input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler or switch off the circuit breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore power. If E1 returns after a few minutes, continue with diagnostics.
  • 2. Locate the cabinet sensor: The cabinet NTC sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the rear interior wall behind a small plastic cover. Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic panel if necessary.
  • 3. Inspect the sensor and wiring: Check for cut, pinched, or chewed wires, loose connectors, or corrosion at the plug where the sensor connects to the harness. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • 4. Test the sensor (if you have a multimeter): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance across the sensor leads. At room temperature (around 77°F / 25°C), most Electrolux NTC sensors read roughly 5k–10k ohms. If the reading is open (OL), shorted (near 0 ohms), or far outside spec, the sensor is bad.
  • 5. Replace the sensor: If defective, remove any retaining clips, gently pull out the sensor, route the new sensor along the same path, and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges. Reconnect to the harness.
  • 6. Check the control board: If a known-good sensor still gives E1, inspect the main control board for burnt spots or damaged pins. In that case, the board may need replacement and is best handled by a qualified technician.

When to call a professional: If you are not comfortable removing interior panels or testing resistance, or if the control board appears damaged, contact an authorized Electrolux service technician.
