Display shows E5 and the compressor may not start or may shut down quickly.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Work on the compressor area only if you are comfortable around mains voltage components. Do not open the sealed refrigeration system.
E5 often indicates a problem in the compressor start/overload circuit.
- Step 1 – Verify power supply: Confirm the outlet provides stable voltage within the range specified on the EuroCave rating plate. Avoid extension cords and power strips.
- Step 2 – Listen for compressor behavior: After plugging in, listen for a brief hum followed by a click. Repeated clicking without running suggests a start device or compressor issue.
- Step 3 – Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and overload protector.
- Step 4 – Inspect start device: Remove the start relay/PTC from the compressor terminals. Check for burn marks, rattling pieces inside, or melted plastic. Replace with the correct EuroCave-specified start device if damaged.
- Step 5 – Check compressor shell temperature: A very hot compressor that repeatedly trips the overload may be failing mechanically. Allow it to cool fully before retesting.
- Step 6 – Reassemble and test: Refit the start device, secure all covers, and power on. If E5 persists and the compressor does not run, professional diagnosis of the sealed system is required.
Important: Do not attempt to open or recharge the sealed system yourself; this requires certified refrigeration service.
