Wine cooler displays E1 and interior temperature rises above set point, unit still has lights but compressor does not run continuously.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
Step-by-step checks:
- Power cycle the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If E1 returns within a few minutes, continue.
- Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Fagor wine coolers, the cabinet NTC sensor is clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the rear interior wall behind a small plastic cover. Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic panel if needed.
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for broken insulation, corrosion on the connector, or a sensor that has come loose from its clip. Reseat the connector on both the sensor and the main control board (usually behind the upper front control panel or rear service panel).
- Test the sensor with a multimeter: Set to resistance (kΩ). At room temperature (~25°C), most Fagor NTC sensors should read roughly 5–10 kΩ. If the reading is infinite (open) or near 0 Ω (short), the sensor is defective.
- Check continuity of the harness: With the unit unplugged, test from the sensor connector to the main board connector. Repair or replace any damaged wires.
- Replace the sensor if faulty: Order a compatible Fagor cabinet NTC temperature sensor for your exact model. Clip the new sensor in the same position and route the harness away from sharp metal and moving parts.
- If sensor and wiring test good: The temperature input circuit on the main PCB is likely defective. Replace the main control board as a complete assembly.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable testing resistance or accessing the control board, contact a qualified appliance technician.
