Possible Causes
Blocked condenser airflow, failed condenser fan, dirty condenser coil, ambient temperature too high for installation, faulty temperature protection sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning or working near the condenser and compressor.
Steps to address E4:
- Check installation conditions: Ensure the wine cooler has adequate ventilation per Fisher & Paykel specifications and is not installed in a confined cabinet without airflow.
- Clean condenser coil: Remove the rear lower panel and use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust from the condenser fins.
- Verify condenser fan operation: With the panel off, briefly power the unit and confirm the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on. If not, test and replace the fan motor as needed (after unplugging again).
- Inspect thermal protection sensor: Some models use a thermal sensor near the compressor or condenser. Check its wiring and mounting. Replace if damaged or reading incorrectly.
- Reset and monitor: After cleaning and repairs, reset power and monitor operation. If E4 recurs despite good airflow and components, the main control board may be misreading temperatures and require replacement.
