Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor, sensor dislodged from grille or housing, wiring harness damage, faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing toe-kick grilles or rear panels.
Steps to address F3:
- Locate ambient sensor: On many Fisher & Paykel wine coolers, the ambient sensor is near the front toe-kick grille or behind a small vent on the cabinet frame. Consult the tech sheet if available.
- Visual inspection: Ensure the sensor is not hanging loose, blocked by debris, or damaged. Clean any dust or lint from the vent area to allow proper airflow.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor leads to the harness. Look for pinched or cut wires, especially where they pass through metal openings. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and the main PCB.
- Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance. Compare to the specified value for the current room temperature. Replace the sensor if readings are open, shorted, or unstable when the wire is gently moved.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing or reseating the sensor, restore power and clear the error by cycling power. Monitor operation for several hours.
- Board replacement: If F3 persists with a known-good sensor and wiring, the main control board is likely at fault and should be replaced by a professional.
