Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, fan blade obstruction, ice buildup around fan, wiring harness or connector fault to fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp.

Steps to address F6:

  • Check for airflow: With the door closed and unit powered (before unplugging), listen for the evaporator fan running. Lack of airflow or unusual noise indicates a fan issue.
  • Access the fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Inspect for ice or obstructions: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or objects that may have fallen into the fan. Clear any obstructions and fully defrost the area if iced over.
  • Spin the fan by hand: With power off, gently rotate the fan blade. It should spin freely without grinding. If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the fan harness and connector for damage or loose pins. Reseat the connector at the fan and at the main PCB.
  • Test the fan motor: Measure resistance across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Replace the evaporator fan motor assembly if defective.
  • Reassemble and test: After replacement, restore power and verify that the fan runs and the F6 code clears.
