Possible Causes

Open or shorted cabinet thermistor, damaged thermistor wiring harness, corroded thermistor connector at control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

Steps to check and address E1:

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in to see if the code clears. If E1 returns, continue.
  • Locate the cabinet thermistor: Inside the wine compartment, look for a small plastic sensor cover on the rear or side wall (often near the middle). Remove the cover to expose the thermistor bulb or probe.
  • Inspect the sensor and wiring: Check for broken, pinched, or chewed wires, discoloration, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Test the thermistor (if you have a multimeter): Disconnect the thermistor from the harness. Measure resistance at room temperature (around 77°F / 25°C). A typical Frigidaire NTC thermistor will read in the 5k–20k ohm range. If it reads 0 ohms (short) or OL (open), it is defective.
  • Replace the thermistor: Order a Frigidaire-compatible cabinet temperature sensor for your exact model. Remove the old sensor by gently pulling the probe through the liner (note routing). Install the new sensor in the same path and reconnect to the control board harness.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall any covers, restore power, and allow several minutes. The E1 code should clear and the compressor/fans should start after a short delay.

When to call a technician: If the thermistor tests good but E1 persists, the main control board may have a failed sensor input circuit and should be diagnosed by a professional.
