Possible Causes

Failed evaporator thermistor, thermistor dislodged from evaporator coil, damaged wiring between evaporator sensor and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges are present around the evaporator area.

Steps to address E2:

  • Power cycle: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes and plug back in. If E2 reappears, proceed.
  • Access the evaporator compartment: Remove the interior rear panel inside the wine compartment (usually held by screws). Behind it you will see the evaporator coil and a small sensor clipped or taped to the tubing.
  • Inspect the evaporator thermistor: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator coil and not hanging loose. Check for cracked insulation, corrosion, or broken wires.
  • Check the connector: Follow the sensor wires to the connector and control board. Reseat the connector and look for signs of moisture damage.
  • Test the sensor: With a multimeter, measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the expected NTC range (often 5k–20k ohms at 77°F). If reading is open or shorted, replace the sensor.
  • Replace the evaporator sensor: Order a Frigidaire evaporator thermistor for your model. Remove the old sensor from the coil, route the new sensor along the same path, secure it to the coil with the original clip or aluminum tape, and reconnect.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the rear panel, restore power, and monitor for several cooling cycles. The E2 code should clear automatically.

Note: If the sensor tests good but E2 persists, the electronic control board may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
