Possible Causes

Defective ambient thermistor, loose or oxidized connector at control board, wiring harness damage near front grille or control area

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any trim or control panels.

How to troubleshoot E3:

  • Confirm installation conditions: Ensure the cooler is not installed in an area outside its rated ambient temperature (typically 60–90°F). Extreme ambient conditions can trigger sensor-related errors.
  • Locate the ambient sensor: On many Frigidaire wine coolers, the ambient sensor is near the front grille or behind the control panel, sensing room air. Remove the kick plate or control panel trim to access it.
  • Inspect wiring and sensor body: Look for crushed wires, rodent damage, or corrosion. Make sure the sensor is not touching hot components like the compressor discharge line.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the expected NTC range. If the reading is far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Replace the ambient sensor: Install a Frigidaire-compatible ambient thermistor, routing the wires away from moving parts and heat sources. Secure with clips or tape as originally installed.
  • Reset and test: Restore power and clear the error by unplugging for a few minutes if needed. Monitor displayed temperature versus an accurate thermometer placed inside the cabinet.

Call a professional if the sensor tests normal but the control still shows E3, as the main control board may be defective.
