Possible Causes
Failed zone damper motor, open communication harness between upper and lower zone boards, stuck damper door
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing interior panels or accessing dampers.
Steps to troubleshoot E9:
- Identify zones: On dual-zone models, note which zone is not responding to temperature changes (upper or lower).
- Check airflow: Feel for airflow between zones. If one zone is much colder and the other is warm, the damper may be stuck closed or open.
- Access the damper assembly: Remove the interior divider or rear panel where the two zones meet. Locate the small damper door and motor assembly.
- Inspect damper door: Look for broken plastic, obstructions, or ice preventing movement. Clear any debris and gently free the door if stuck.
- Test damper motor: With power restored and a temperature change commanded, listen/feel for damper motor movement. If silent and no movement, test for voltage at the motor connector.
- Replace damper motor: If voltage is present but the motor does not move, install a new Frigidaire damper motor assembly. Ensure the door is correctly aligned.
- Check harness: If no voltage is present, inspect the communication harness between zone boards for damage or loose connectors.
Professional help is recommended if harness or control board issues are suspected.
