Possible Causes
Defective magnetic door reed switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty door input circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing door trim or accessing the door switch area.
Steps to fix E11:
- 1. Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and is not obstructed by shelves, bottles, or gaskets folded inward.
- 2. Inspect door magnet: Many Gaggenau wine coolers use a magnet in the door and a reed switch in the frame. Verify the magnet is present and properly seated in the door edge.
- 3. Test door switch: Locate the reed switch in the cabinet frame (often behind a small plastic cover). With power off, remove the cover and test continuity across the switch while opening and closing the door (or moving a magnet near it). Replace if it does not change state.
- 4. Check wiring: Follow the switch wires to the control board. Look for breaks or loose connectors.
- 5. Replace faulty components: Install a new reed switch or door magnet as needed. Ensure correct alignment so the switch closes when the door is shut.
- 6. Control board check: If the switch and magnet are good but the unit still thinks the door is open, the control board input may be defective and require replacement.
- 7. Test operation: Restore power and confirm that the door alarm stops and the interior light turns off when the door is closed.
Tip: A misaligned door due to hinge sag can also cause intermittent door switch errors; adjust hinges if necessary.
